I apologize if this topic has been discussed before. I searched the archives but didn't see anything.

I have a 2012 Dodge with the HO Cummins, auto tranny, 3.73 rear end (I think) in a 2500 Mega Cab. I now have a little over 20,000 miles, so am assuming the motor is "broken in".

Anyway, on the highway I average a calculated 13.4 mpg with cruise set on 71mph. If I pull anything, such as a 20' utility trailer with 1 Polaris Ranger I can get as low as 6.7mpg if I'm fighting a wind.

The dealer keeps telling me that there must be something wrong, as the other similar trucks are doing better than that, but they cant find anything.

Does anyone have any idea?? I'm EXTREMELY interested in going with a H&S tuner, DPF delete, and new 4" exhaust, but I want the truck "right" before I do any modifications.

Thanks in advance for any help!!! I certainly appreciate it!

Sounds about right before I did my deletes. I had about 10k on my truck. My fuel mileage almost doubled pulling and city and highway went way up too. I know you have the fear of a lost warranty but all the research I did the warranty work people were having done was due to these emissions so just delete your future headaches plus add life back to your truck. The foreman at my dodge dealer supports the deletes and he has said that anything other than motor and tranny will still be covered under the warranty. So like I said its tough to do but man you won't regret it for a minute.

I have the same gears 3.73,and I was getting the same MPG as you are. I would remove DPF and EGR/cooler deletes, lots of heat re-routes back into motor. Your truck will come back to life and MPG will increase. Before my deletes my truck was in and out of the dealership for clogged soot build up in the turbo, and lots of soot build up in the EGR assembly. I was going through regen 3 to 4 times a week,go with the 5 inch turbo back exhaust egt's will be a little lower and you will be much happier versus 4 inch turbo back system. Take care, and good luck.

I'm glad you're getting better mileage cuz I'm not :) The deletes and all are well worth it though, I just wouldn't want to promise anyone better fuel economy - no matter what I do I can't EVER get an average above 15 MPG. I have 3:73 gears.

I drive in the city most of the time and the best I can get is 12.4 MPG on the fuel economy readout, and that is driving it like an old lady. I've read about people claiming 19 to 20 MPG I would assume that is all highway driving but I still don't buy it maybe 15 or 16 MPG highway would be more believable. I do agree about deleting all of that emission stuff as it will just clog up your egr, turbo & dpf. I have done alot of work to my truck and went from stock to the mods in my signature over a period of a few months. The only advise I can give you is be careful who's advise you take, as I have found that not very many people actually tell the truth about the results they get whether it be egt temps or 5 inch exhaust over 4 inch, or cai as examples. In the end it is your money and you have to justify what you want to spend it on good luck on your future mods. B)
